My Indie Nation Changes The Online
Music Scene
www.myindienation.com
In mid-February a new online community for musicians
and fans opened its doors to the World Wide Web community.
What makes this site different is its ability to combine the best of
other sites such as MySpace, Digital Rodeo, Air Play Direct, IAC,
Sonicbids and more.
"You’re gonna love this place
because My Indie Nation does
everything in one place," said
co-founder Mary Warren. "Until now
you had to go to one site to put up
your music and maybe a video, then
you gotta go to another place to do
an EPK – and all you get is an EPK
and it’s not cheap, right? Now you
can do it here and send it to
whoever needs to see it – AND you
can even embed that EPK in all your
other sites! If you want to put up a
radio station, you gotta find
another place that does that. We do
all that stuff and way, way more."

The site offers free accounts for musicians and fans. The
free accounts provide enough space and features to get you up and
running. Music that is tagged for air play is also featured on the
site's house radio and appears in the music charts.
For those looking to create a site that rivals those of the major
labels, a power account is available at a charge less than most
other sites, offering less features.
"Our power users can create their own radio stations, formulate
their EPKs (electronic press kits) and send them to fans and radio
stations worldwide," Warren said. "There is the ability to sell not
just music, but also merchandise through the artist's site. It's a
unique type of community that has been designed to help indie
artists get their music out to the world.
"We even have a feature that allows artists to create a TV
station, featuring their favorite videos. One of the features that
is hard to find on other sites is our file grabber. This allows a
user to enter a url and just transfer those files to his or her site
on My Indie Nation. It saves a lot of time in building their pages."
Warren explained that the site also allows artists to hold online
events which they can sell tickets to online.
"Imagine holding a CD release party online and being able to invite
only those you want there," she said. "You can hold a concert online
and sell tickets to it right from your My Indie Nation page."
Of course, the site features the standard items, such as an event
calendar, but My Indie Nation takes that simple feature to the next
level by providing maps to the exact location of the event. Forums
are also part of the site and allow users to exchange ideas and
learn some tips and tricks about using the site's numerous features.
Plans also call for inclusion of a gig exchanger and list as well as
a feature that will allow promoters to advertise their venues and
opportunities to site users. Radio stations will also be able to log
in to the site under a special account. They can search through al
of the music provided by the artists for inclusion on their radio
programs.
"This site is a win-win for everyone," Warren said. "We believe
strongly in promoting independent artists and we designed this site
to make it easy and fun for them to get their music out to the
world."
Fans can sign up under the free "member" account and listen to
their favorite bands, and discover new ones.
Warren explained even the advertising rates on the new site are
designed to allow a small band the ability to run an ad (either on
the site or its radio and TV channels) at a fraction of what other
similar sites charge.
"If you do nothing other than sign up for the free artist
account, you will see benefits to your music immediately," Warren
said.
