Musicians need to change the concept of "Live"

OK, the days of playing in the local bar are winding down. Forget getting a band together and making it big by playing in your area bars. Fewer and fewer of these types of venues are looking for bands.
That makes it a little harder for many bands to get a fan base or to get some exposure. So how to combat this?

Well, the first thing you need to do is polish your performance skills. Start looking at doing a two-hour stage production - lighting, sound, audience interaction. It's all part of the new live music scene.

Perhaps the two largest areas for these types of shows are Nashville and Branson. Now, I know you are thinking country, but that's no longer true.

Branson has a variety of shows in just about every genre. And our new theater - The Star - will be presenting new and exciting band acts all year in 2008. So, forget about Pat Boone, Andy Williams and the rest of the "old set" - they won't make the cut in a few years.
Now is the time to start rethinking your band's performances.

Take some time to polish your skills, and if you are lucky enough to be playing at a local bar, try out a portion of a stage-like show there. See what type of reaction you get.
You might be surprised.

Another aspect many artists seem to overlook is their presentation.  It's key!  It's crucial.  D and M Music/D and M Records puts in a lot of time looking for great new artists for airplay and performances.  It's discouraging when we visit the many music sites online and start "shopping" to find pages that are incomplete - no picture (or bad quality),  no bio, press - sometimes there's no music!

The competition is huge in today's music industry.  Record labels, producers, DJ's really are looking for new talent and good new artists are hard to come by - many times just because they pay little or no attention to detail.  Perception is everything.  Make yourself look and sound like a star and you will be noticed.

One of the newest music sites is My Indie Nation, and this is a place for serious musicians to start honing their online publicity.  It offers in one place all the features of the other sites - and more.  This site allows you to send to radio stations, record labels, and agents a great looking, professional EPK.  You can do press releases through the site, sell your music, hold online events, and more.  DJ's are looking and listening.  Take advantage of My Indie Nation and other sites to present yourself in the best possible light.  Don't think you can just get by with a picture of yourself in a tee shirt and be taken seriously.  Create your presentations as if they were to be put in a presentation folder and handed to a producer.  If you don't take yourself and your career seriously, no one else will either.
